2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE vs 2019 Volvo XC90
Here we are yet again putting Mercedes-Benz up against Swedish automaker Volvo. It’s tough to compare favorably against an automaker like Mercedes-Benz that has been around since the 1880s, but we couldn’t help but notice that the 2019 Volvo XC90 has a similar size and function to the midsize GLE. We’re investigating those similarities here. How does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE compare to the 2019 Volvo XC90?
Mercedes-Benz put their best foot forward by making some key changes to the GLE for the 2020 model year. You’ll notice it has larger dimensions as well as available 3rd-row seating, which wasn’t available for 2019. There is also a wider range of performance outputs and new luxurious interior styling. Take a look at some helpful head to head comparisons in the table below!

Highlights in the 2020 GLE
This is sure to be the best GLE we’ve ever seen. Some models, like the 2019 Volvo XC90, are primarily just carryover models. While the XC90 received a few fine-tuning details, the GLE received some cool new features for 2020. The first and most notable is the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system, which is an intelligent voice-recognition system that performs commands on-demand. Simply say “hey Mercedes” followed by your command, such as asking for a certain song to play or what the score is of a sporting event, and the system will respond accordingly. You may have noticed that the base engine for the 2020 GLE has less power than it did for 2019. Don’t worry about that, because you can always upgrade to one of the larger engines and you’ll get as much power as you need. The base GLE 350 is more fuel efficient while still offering a respectable power output of 255 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque – both numbers that exceed the base trim for the XC90. The 2020 GLE also has a much larger towing capacity than the XC90 with a 7,700 lb limit.
